The purpose of the local performance assessment requirement is to ensure that Oregon students are afforded opportunities to learn and to receive feedback regarding their academic progress.

Sutherlin Work Sample Requirements

In Oregon, the Local Performance Assessment Requirement states that school districts shall administer one or more performance assessments each year to all students in grades 3 through 8 and in high school in:

• Mathematics

• Scientific Inquiry

• Speaking

• Writing

As noted above, Work Sample is a specific kind of local performance assessment that is an approved assessment option for the Essential Skills graduation requirement. Work Samples must be administered, scored, and potentially revised under strict administrative conditions, including that they must be scored using the State Scoring Guides.
