On this Christmas Day, we are grateful for our students, families, staff, and community partners who make Sutherlin such a special place to learn and grow. We hope today brings you peace, connection, and moments of joy with those you love. Thank you for the trust you place in our schools—we look forward to welcoming everyone back in the new year.

The Sutherlin School District is proud to congratulate Jon Martz, principal of Sutherlin High School, on being named the 2026 Oregon High School Principal of the Year by the Coalition of School Administrators (COSA). Jon’s leadership reflects a deep commitment to students, strong systems, and a culture of trust and collaboration. It is an interactive class, and families will take home many hands-on activities and manipulatives to use with their child during the learning process. The series of classes will be held 3 times this year in the evenings from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at East Primary School. Childcare and dinner will be provided.
There will also be giveaways and prizes! If you are interested in attending all three classes, please follow the link below. We will contact you with more details as the first class in January approaches.

The Sutherlin High School Cheer program will host monthly prep clinics at the Middle School. These clinics are designed to introduce 8th-grade students to the basics of cheerleading in a structured, supportive environment. All 8th graders are welcome.

-Learn how the Standard Response Protocol works in our schools—so terms like Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter feel clear, calm, and familiar.
-Understand what families can expect during a safety incident, including district communication, and how decisions are made to protect students.
-Gain confidence in reunification procedures.
-Ask questions, offer feedback, and help us strengthen student-centered safety systems that reflect community needs and values.
-Build partnership—because when schools, families, and first responders share language, expectations, and relationships, students are safer and better supported.
When: Thursday, December 11, 2025
Where: Sutherlin High School Activity Center
Time: 6:00-7:00 PM

Mark your calendars for our Winter Concert on Tuesday, December 9th, at the Sutherlin High School Gym!
East Primary (PreK-2nd grade)– 5:00 PM
Each grade will perform three songs.
Students will remain seated with their teachers during the performance.
There will be a short intermission afterwards so East families can exit and West families can enter comfortably.
West Intermediate (3rd-5th grade)– 6:00 PM
Each grade will also perform three songs.
Students will remain seated with their teachers during the performance.
Additional Notes:
If you have students at both schools, you may remain in the gym during the transition between school groups.
There are no dress requirements for students—please have them wear something comfortable.
