Sutherlin Evergreen Wellness Event - Sport Physicals Thursday, August 1, 2024 (4 pm-7 pm) 249 Dakota Street, Sutherlin 541-677-7200 Evergreen is excited to offer FREE well-child checks and sports physicals for all school-aged kids! They will bill insurance, but there will be no out-of-pocket expense for families. Don't have insurance? No Worries! Evergreen's community health workers will be on-site to assist you in signing up for the Oregon Health Plan.

Kinder Camp is August 12-15th from 8-11:15. All students registered for Kindergarten are also registered for Kinder Camp. Attendance is voluntary, but the opportunity helps students adjust to a full school day.

Football Camp was a big success last week. We sincerely thank all the coaches and volunteers for their extra hours and hard work. Sutherlin hosted three teams and spent three full days building skills and scrimmaging. We thank our school neighbors for putting up with the lights and extra noise. Go Bulldogs!

Today marks Debbie Foley's last official day of work. The Sutherlin School District extends its deepest gratitude for her wisdom, intelligence, and unwavering advocacy for children over the past three decades. Debbie has served as an elementary teacher, coach, principal, and, most recently, as our student services director. Her impact on our community is profound; she has educated our students, mentored and led our teachers, and made thoughtful and courageous decisions for our district. Debbie's leadership is characterized by quiet strength, always leading by example and keeping the well-being of children at the forefront of every decision. Her legacy in our district is one of kindness, compassion, and a relentless pursuit of system improvements. We are fortunate to have learned from and alongside Debbie Foley. We wish Debbie the very best in her retirement. May her days be filled with joy, family, and friends.

As the Sutherlin School District transitions from the 2023-2024 school year to the 2024-2025 school year, we want to take this opportunity to announce some administrative changes. Our Student Services Director, Debbie Foley, is retiring after over 30 years of dedicated service to Sutherlin families and children. She will be dearly missed, and we wish her a happy retirement. Our East Primary Principal, Beckie Lupton, will move to the district office to become our new Student Services Director. Beckie brings a deep understanding of our district and its families, with over two decades of experience in education. She will be a valuable resource for our students and families. This transition created an opening at East Primary, and we are thrilled to announce that Reina Pike will be joining our administrative team as the new K-2 principal at East. Reina comes to us with teaching and leadership experience in the Winston-Dillard School District and the Douglas Education Service District. We were fortunate that she could spend many days at East this spring. Our East staff and first and second-grade students already know Mrs. Pike, so the transition to new leadership will be smooth. Finally, our Director of School Improvement, Janel Sorenson, will serve as the interim middle school principal for the 2024-2025 school year. Janel has taught in our district for the last two decades, including five years at the middle school. Janel is excited to return to the student-facing side of education; middle school students are her favorite. We are fortunate to have such dedicated and hardworking individuals leading our schools and advocating for students, staff, and the community. We look forward to a year of learning and growth.
