We are thrilled to welcome all our students back for another exciting year at Sutherlin Middle School! The 2024-2025 school year is set to be a year of growth, learning, and new opportunities. We can't wait to see all the amazing things our students will achieve.
First Week Schedule
Here is the schedule for the first week of school:
- Monday, August 26th: Only sixth graders attend from 8:00 am to 3:12 pm.
- Tuesday, August 27th: All grades (6th, 7th, and 8th) attend from 8:00 am to 3:12 pm.
- Wednesday, August 28th: All grades (6th, 7th, and 8th) attend from 8:00 am to 3:12 pm.
- Thursday, August 29th: All grades (6th, 7th, and 8th) attend from 8:00 am to 3:12 pm.
- Friday, August 30th & Monday, September 2nd: No School (Long Labor Day Weekend).
- Tuesday, September 3rd: All grades (6th, 7th, and 8th) attend from 8:00 am to 3:12 pm.

Are you ready to run, have fun, and be part of a team? Join the SMS Cross Country team and discover the joy of distance running!
Cross country is a sport where you get to run on different terrains like grass, trails, and hills! It's a great way to stay active, improve your endurance, and challenge yourself. Plus, you'll make new friends and have a lot of fun along the way!
The SMS Cross Country team is open to all students in grades 6-8. Whether you're a beginner or have some running experience, everyone is welcome to join. We believe in supporting and encouraging each other to reach our personal goals.
If you're interested in joining the SMS Cross Country team, meet in the SMS gym lobby after school on Wednesday (8/28) at 3:30 PM. All student-athletes must have a sports physical on file before participation can begin. Make sure to bring your running shoes, comfortable clothes, and a water bottle.

We welcomed families and students onto campus today to meet their teachers. We had a great turnout, with over 100 families. Our kitchen served up orange chicken samples, a favorite meal for our 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. Teachers were excited to see new faces and some familiar ones. It was an exciting atmosphere, and we hope the chance to visit quieted some of those back-to-school nerves. We will see sixth graders on Monday at 8 am and sixth, seventh, and eighth graders on Tuesday. Have a great weekend.

Attention SMS football athletes and families. SMS football will hold a player interest meeting on Wednesday, Aug 28th, from 3:20 pm to 345 pm. Practices will start Thursday, Aug 29th, after school. Per district policy: •All 7th graders and new 8th graders, or any 8th grader who did not have a physical as a 7th grader, must have a current physical on FILE before the first practice. 6th graders who are planning on playing sports must also have a physical on file before the first practice date. Any player who does not have a current physical will not be allowed to practice until they turn in a completed physical.
